Lesson Transcript

In the previous lesson, we learned how to ask the bus driver if the bus covers your destination. In some countries you may hear the bus driver give announcements to the stops. In the States, some do, but chances that you won't catch it are high. This is because there's too much noise on the bus, or because the driver may just mumble the stop. Sometimes these announcements are recordings, in which case they may be clearer.
In case you don't catch it, just ask, excuse me, what's the next stop? Start off with the expression excuse me, and then ask what's the next stop? Since it's a question, you want to use a rising intonation. Excuse me, what's the next stop?
You can also ask if your intended destination is the next stop. Let's choose Fisherman's Wharf for this example. This is a famous wharf in San Francisco. So, we have - Excuse me, is Fisherman's Wharf the next stop? Once again, that's Excuse me, is Fisherman's Wharf the next stop?
Okay, now to close out today's lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll say the phrase or sentence, and why don't you try saying it out loud? Good luck everybody!
- Excuse me, what's the next stop?
- Excuse me, is Fisherman's Wharf the next stop?
All right, that's going to do it for today! See you all soon!
