Lesson Transcript

In today's lesson, we'll introduce a phrase that will surely come in handy for capturing your memories on film or memory card. The US is full of beautiful scenery. Obviously, you will take many pictures of landscapes and monuments. However, I have no doubt that in some moments you'll want to be in the picture or have everyone in your party in the picture. Therefore, there are times when the question, Can you take our picture? will be invaluable. Let's break it down by syllable - Can you take our picture?
Can is a helping verb and is used in questions. You would be the person you're referring to, take our picture is the request. Now let's hear it once again - Can you take our picture?
If you are on your own you can ask Can you take my picture? And just replace our with my. Once again, that's - Can you take my picture?
Another way of asking this is by saying, Do you mind taking our/my picture? The first words do you mind is a way of starting a question in a polite and friendly way. The verb that follows is in the -ing form, so in this case taking and then we have our or my picture. Once again, putting it all together, we have -
Do you mind taking my picture? or Do you mind taking our picture?
Okay, now to close out today's lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll say the phrase or sentence, and why don't you try saying it out loud? Good luck everybody!
- Can you take our picture?
- Can you take my picture?
- Do you mind taking our picture?
All right, that's going to do it for today! See you all soon!
