In the previous lessons, we introduced you to some phrases you can use when in the United States and this is the last lesson of the series we dedicated to learning from people around you. Today, we are going to cover How do you read this? |
This is a similar question to How do you pronounce this? which you learned in a previous lesson. The difference is that with How do you read this? you might be pointing at a phrase. So, once again, we have how do you as the question starter, and read this is what you'll say while pointing at the phrase. Once again that's How do you read this? If you are pointing at something, you can say, What does this word mean? We have what does for a question, then this word and point at the word. And finish the question with mean. |
So all together, we have What does this word mean? |
Finally, you might also say, What's another word for it? In this case, we have what's and then another word which is asking for a different word, and then you would say, for it? Meaning the word you're pointing at. So once again we have What's another word for it? They might give you a synonym for it. Hopefully one you know. |
Okay, now to close out today's lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll say the phrase or sentence, and why don't you try saying it out loud? Good luck everybody! |
