Top 10 American Movies - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs |
In 1937, Walt Disney animated the Grimm's fairy tale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." In the story, Snow White is a king's daughter who is widely admired for her beauty. When her vain stepmother, the queen, hears about Snow White's beauty, she falls into a jealous rage. She consults her magic mirror and asks a question that became one of the most famous movie lines of all time - "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?" The mirror answers that Snow White is the fairest in the land. The queen was so angered by this response that she ordered her huntsman to kill Snow White. |
However, the huntsman does not kill Snow White; instead, he warns her of the queen's treachery. Scared and alone, Snow White escapes into the woods, where she is befriended by seven dwarfs. The dwarfs are named Doc, Sleepy, Bashful, Happy, Dopey, Grumpy, and Sneezy. |
When the queen learns Snow White is still alive, she disguises herself and attempts to kill her. The queen finds Snow White and tricks her into taking a bite from what she claims is a magical apple. Snow White believed the apple would make her dream of marrying a handsome prince that she had fallen in love with come true. When she bites the apple, the poison causes Snow White to fall into a deep, endless sleep. |
When the dwarfs discover what has happened, they chase the queen to a mountaintop, where she falls to her death. The dwarfs then place Snow White in a glass coffin and hold a constant vigil. After years of waiting, the prince discovers Snow White's body. In his grief, the prince kisses and awakens Snow White, and the two are reunited. The movie ends with the happy couple marrying and living happily ever after. |
