Top 10 American Movies - Star Wars (A New Hope) |
"Star Wars (A New Hope)" is one of the six films released in the "Star Wars" saga. The movie is about events that happened a "long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." Rebel freedom fighters are in a civil war against the repressive Galactic Empire. Their current mission is to destroy the Death Star space station, which is capable of destroying entire planets. Princess Leia, the rebel leader, has intercepted the space station's plans, but she is captured by the imperial forces commanded by Darth Vader. Before Leia is captured, she hides the plans in the memory of a droid called R2-D2. |
The droid escapes and comes into the possession of a farm boy named Luke Skywalker. Through a message from R2-D2, Luke learns about Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. The two meet, and Kenobi explains that he was once a Jedi and had been friends with Luke's father who was betrayed and killed by Darth Vader. Kenobi trains Luke in the ways of the Jedi, and they decide to rescue Leia and save the galaxy. |
The two hire a smuggler named Han Solo to transport them to the rebel headquarters on his ship. The ship is subsequently captured by the Death Star's powerful tractor beam. While on the Death Star, the rebels escape and save Leia. They eventually get back to rebel headquarters, where they analyze the plans and find the Death Star's weak point. The rebels attack the Death Star and suffer heavy casualties. Finally, Skywalker breaks through, and with the voice of Kenobi in his head, he turns off his targeting device and uses the force to fire a shot that destroys the Death Star seconds before it destroys the rebel base. The movie ends with a ceremony where Leia gives Skywalker and Solo medals for their bravery. |
