Welcome back to Weekly Words. My name is Alisha, and today we're going to talk about baby animals. Yay! |
The first one is ‘cub’. |
A‘cub’ can be a baby bear, cheetah—cheetah cub, really?—lion cubs and panda. Really, okay so types of bears and apparently big cats have cubs. A very famous one would be Simba from ‘The Lion King’. Simba was a very famous cub. |
“Tadpole”, this is a good word. |
“Tadpole” is a baby frog. Tadpole swimming class, for like, really little kids, they would learn to swim, and they'd be called tadpoles. In a sentence, “Tadpoles have a tail.” “Tadpoles are baby frogs. Have you ever seen one before?” |
“Kid”. |
“Kid” is a baby goat. Also, we use kid to refer to a baby human. When children, you know, morph— When children move on past, you know, baby-phase, toddler-phase, there's a long stretch of time that they're referred to as kids. Baby goats are also referred to as kids. In a sentence, “The sound kids make is very cute.”“The kid kicked my kid!”Oh wow, that's an important sentence to know. |
Ew, next word is ‘larva’. |
All the other things were cute. ‘Larva’ is gross. Larva is a baby insect. Before an insect becomes, you know, a full-fledged insect, it has this larva stage where it sort of incubates—it waits—it’s like the egg stage of larva. It's really gross. So in a sentence, “He-” oh no I don't want to make that sentence that's gross. “Larva are gross”, I think. |
Next is ‘piglet’. |
Good, back to a cute word. ‘Piglet’ is a baby pig. ‘-let’ is a common suffix for, like, a small thing, like a piglet or a— I use it at the end of a lot of words. I call my little brother my sib-let. But a piglet anyway is a baby pig or hedgehog. I didn't know that! A pig— not like a hedge-let. I learned a new word today too. Okay, so piglets are really cute. A very famous piglet is in ‘Winnie the Pooh’. |
And that's the end of baby animals. So next time you go to the farm or go out in the wilderness somewhere and you come across a baby animal, maybe, you can correctly identify it in English. That's a very important skill to have surely. Alright thanks for watching and we'll see you again next time. Bye! Koalas are often referred to as bears but they are not. The more you know. |
