Lesson Transcript

In the previous lesson, we covered how to get a bus ticket. So now that you have your ticket, get ready to jump on your bus and start the tour. But wait a second, before you get on the bus you need to confirm if it's going to your destination. We can accomplish this by asking, excuse me, does this go to..., and then state your destination. You don't have to say bus, as in, excuse me, does this bus go to..., since it's obvious. Remember, it's better to say excuse me or hello to sound polite. This question needs the helping verb to do, and the word this to indicate the bus, and then finally the main verb, go to. So, once again we have - excuse me, does this go to...?
Another way you could ask is by saying, excuse me, does this stop at... ?Once again, we have the words excuse me, the helping verb does, and then it is followed by this stop at. So all together, excuse me, does this stop at...?
Imagine that you are visiting a city for the first time, you have no idea of the distances between your favorite destinations, and you need to ask the bus driver how long the bus takes. You can say, How long does it take to...? How long asks for the distance or time of something. Once again, that's - How long does it take to...? The bus driver will most likely give you the measurement in time. However, some people do give it in distance.
Okay, now to close out today's lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll say the phrase or sentence, and why don't you try saying it out loud? Good luck everybody!
- Excuse me, does this go to...
- Excuse me, does this stop at...
- How long does it take to...?
All right, that's going to do it for today! See you all soon!
