INTRODUCTION |
Where is the Closest Shop in the UK? |
In the previous lesson, we learned how to ask for directions to important places. In this lesson, we’ll expand on that topic and add another helpful phrase. |
SURVIVAL PHRASES |
“Is there a (place) near here?” This phrase can also be used when you are looking for somewhere. To complete this sentence, we need a place. For this example, we’ll use “pharmacy”. |
So, we need to say: “Is there a pharmacy near here?” |
We start the question with ‘is there’, followed by the place you are looking for, ‘a pharmacy’, and finally ‘near here’, which is your location. All in all, we have: “Is there a pharmacy near here?” |
Changing this sentence is very easy; all you have to do is replace the word pharmacy with the new location. Let’s imagine that you need to withdraw some money from your bank account. You will need to ask for a cash machine. So the question would be: “Is there a cash machine near here?” |
Okay, to close out this lesson we’d like you to practice what you’ve just learned. I’ll provide you with the phrase, and you’re responsible for shouting it out loud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So good luck! |
- Is there a pharmacy near here? |
- Is there a cash machine near here? |
