INTRODUCTION |
Learn to Write in English without Lifting a Pen |
In the previous lesson we learned how to ask a very important question: “How do you say this in English?” Today we’re going to look at a similar phrase to help you find out more information while visiting the UK. |
SURVIVAL PHRASES |
If you want someone to write down important details, you can ask: “Can you write it down, please?” We start the request with ‘can you’, followed by the action, which is ‘write it down’, and finally ‘please’ for politeness. If you request this, make sure you have a pen and paper ready. |
When the information is written on a piece of paper, there may be some words you don’t know how to say. In this situation you can ask: “How do you pronounce this?” You can say this while pointing at the word that you don’t know. |
When asking these questions, it’s important that you have a pen and paper with you. If you don’t, then you can start by asking: “Do you have a pen and paper?” As it’s a question, we start with ‘do you have’, followed by the request, ‘a pen and paper’. |
Okay, to close out this lesson we’d like you to practice what you’ve just learned. I’ll provide you with the phrase, and you’re responsible for shouting it out loud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So good luck! |
- Can you write it down please? |
- How do you pronounce this? |
- Do you have a pen and paper? |
