| British Hotel, Part 2: Check-Out |
| In the last lesson we took a look at the phrases needed when checking-in to a hotel. In this lesson we’ll add some more useful language for hotel situations. |
| SURVIVAL PHRASES |
| A very important phrase, and one that can save you some money, is: “What time is checkout?” If you overstay, then you’ll be charged extra, so this is very useful! |
| First we have ‘what time is’ and then ‘checkout’. |
| Once you’ve checked-in to the hotel, you may find that you are missing some important items. Here’s a list of important products you may need: |
| ● Towel |
| ● Toothbrush |
| ● Toothpaste |
| ● Shampoo |
| ● Soap |
| If you need any of these, you could say, for example: “Can I have a towel, please?” Since this is a question, you start the sentence with ‘can I have’, followed by the item you need, in this case ‘a towel’. And don’t forget ‘please’ at the end to make it polite. You can also ask for ‘a toothbrush’ in this way. |
| If you want ‘toothpaste’, ‘shampoo’, or ‘soap’, then you will have to add the word ‘some’ in front of the product. This is because ‘a towel’ or ‘a toothbrush’ are single items, while the others contain multiple measurements. |
| So, if you want to ask for soap, you would say: “Can I have some soap, please?” Once again, we have the polite question starter, ‘can I have’, this time followed by ‘some’, then ‘soap’, and finally ‘please’. |
| Please note that “can” can be interchanged with “could.” |
| So for example, “Could I have some soap, please.” |
