INTRODUCTION |
Help! in English |
Hopefully you won’t need the phrases that we introduce to you in this lesson. However, it’s always best to be prepared. |
That’s why we’ll learn how to call for help. |
SURVIVAL PHRASES |
The threat of physical violence is low in the UK, but you should always be careful. It’s also good to know how to call for help in case someone around you is in need of assistance. |
In an emergency situation, you would shout: “Help!” People will often respond if they hear this and see that you are in trouble. |
“Help!” |
Alternatively, if you can see that somebody else is about to get into trouble, perhaps by stepping out in front of a car, you could shout: “Look out!” |
In a fire situation, simply shout ‘fire!’, and if you need the police, just yell ‘police!’. |
In the UK, the phone number for all emergency services is 999. |
Okay, to close out this lesson we’d like you to practice what you’ve just learned. I’ll provide you with the phrase, and you’re responsible for shouting it out loud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So good luck! |
- Help! |
- Look out! |
