Do you know how to talk about What Ifs in English?
Welcome to Three Step English Practice by EnglishClass101.com. In this lesson, you will practice talking about what ifs in English.
Let’s look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
How crowded is it? When I go there, it's always crowded.
If it's crowded, we'll go somewhere else.
Could you call ahead?
In this conversation, this person
Is asking this person
Whether the place they are going to will be crowded.
Instead of answering directly, the other person says
"If it's crowded, we'll go somewhere else."
By saying "If it's crowded," they are making clear that what follows will only happen on the condition that the place is crowded.
After that, they say "we'll go somewhere else." "We'll" is a contraction of "we will," in which "will" means that "go somewhere else" is something that would happen in the future, if it happens.
Let’s practice with this grammar more in this lesson.
